What is Coaching?

The main benefit of life coaching is that it gives you a listening ear and sounding board in a a safe, non-judgemental, confidential environment – somewhere to explore your ideas and get constructive feedback.

Coaching is about releasing your potential and helping you to get the best performance out of yourself.  It is not about instructing you what to do.  You are the expert on your own life.  Inside yourself you already hold the key to your Greatness.

Through the use of effective questioning and challenging techniques I will raise your awareness of what is holding you back from fulfiling your dreams.  This process generates responsibility in you and raises your motivation, leading to improved performance.  Because of this greater awareness you will be empowered to make better decisions and choices.

In short, Life Coaching will get you out of your own way so that you get to where you are going much faster than if you were to go on your own.

What Coaching is not: -

-  Coaching does not delve into the past

-  Coaching does not explore reasons why things are the way they are

-  Coaching does not offer you specific advice or counsel you.

This leaves you free to drive the agenda.  Coaching is always client focussed.  Sessions will progress at the pace which you want and go and in the direction you want to take them.

Why does Coaching work?

You are much more likely to succeed when you have someone to report back to on your progress.  See the figures below on the probability of achieving a goal if

-  You have an idea                                                                           10%
-  You decide when you’ll do it                                                           40%
-  You plan how you’ll do it                                                                 50%
-  You make a commitment to someone that you’ll do it                     65%
-  You make an appointment to report back to the person you
           made a commitment with                                                         95%

Now, imagine having someone to cheer you on and hold you accountable to be and do your best.

You can’t win the race if you don’t know where you’re going!  Life coaching helps you to train for the race of life. It helps you to clarify your goals and remember where you’re headed and why.  Then it supports you and holds you accountable for achieving them.

How many Sessions will I need?

The coaching relationship will go on for as long as it is beneficial, depending on the issues presented.  Twelve sessions are recommended as it has been noted that the most powerful changes are experienced over a 90 – 180 day period.  The initial agreement can be for six, nine or 12 sessions and add on sessions agreed to suit your needs.

What does a session look like?

At the beginning of your coaching journey the first step is to identify your ‘big picture goal’ or what you want to achieve from the coaching.  After this a session typially begins with a review of the previous week, looking at victories and challenges.  This naturally follows onto what the next step towards your ultimate destination looks like for you.

During the course of these sessions I will use skilful questioning and various tools and techniques to uncover what is holding you back.  Then we will agree on manageable but challenging actions to move you forward.

You should expect to leave each session motivated and ready to tackle the next step.
